Large-scale energy storage is the key technology to ensure the safety of power grids and increase the consumption of renewable energy
and it is the strategic core of the further development of new energy. The researches on metal oxides for high-temperature energy storage technology is reviewed in detail. It is revealed that
the performance of pure metal oxides are usually limited by cycle stability and kinetic rate
while the performance of metal oxides modified by cobalt
manganese and copper as well as the perovskite metal oxides increases dramatically. On this basis
a 100 MW solar supercritical carbon dioxide Brayton cycle integrated with metal oxide energy storage system is constructed
and the corresponding steady state model is established. The simulation results show that
the thermal efficiency of this power cycle can reach 51.2%
and the solar-to-electricity efficiency can reache 25.2%
the system can realize 24-hour operation at typical sunny equinox.
